Background Info The South African Schools Act (Section 51), passed by Parliament in 1996, made home education a legal option available for children.
What is Home Education?
The SA Schools Act defines home education as: The learner receiving education at the learner’s own home. More and more parents are choosing to educate their children at home because they know that they are responsible for their own children’s education. We believe that HOME EDUCATION IS A LIFESTYLE -- it happens all day long!
There are more than 10 000 home educating families in South Africa. The numbers have been escalating each year since it was legalised in 1996. Parents can receive support from associations, legal organisations, curriculum providers and support groups in their communities |
